PROJECT 85

THE DEBT IN THREE EPISODES

2015

Episode 1: The face of the woman in debt

In this film, actual mothers of the Project 85’s brazilian members, expand the disgraced face of Helena Failure and enact the misfortunes that tackled her life. We follow her path from the democratic aperture in Brazil, her success on the job market to her financial and subjective decay. As the final outcome of this one life (or ten lives), we see an urban legend of a phantasmic woman who drives a cheap silver car and is willing to help brazilian women in debt, cursing against her own life.

In 2016, the film was selected to the Focus Exhibit at the Tiradentes’ Cinema Festival, to the Pirenópolis’ Documentary Festival, aside from winning the best short-film award the the Filme Livre Exhibit. Presented at Itaú Cultural, SESC Belenzinho and II Bienal de Teatro da USP in 2016.

Episode 2: The face of the man in debt

EVACUATE! We must evacuate! The earth trembles and, facing such tremors, terrible animals roam our corners. We must leave now! I’m sorry for the death of your father, but it’s imperative that you leave this house as fast as possible. Nothing will come of arguing who gets the keys or the turtle or the porcelain or the room in the back. No need to worry about the debt, for the fire will consume all the papers! The temperature quickly rises and our ideas are in full convulsion. Evacuate! WE MUST EVACUATE!

Episode 3: The face of the country in debt

The Reconstruction is welcomed with euphoria and enthusiasm while vertiginously increasing the nation’s public debt, leaving a trail of death and a permanently indebted subjective state. Five performers mobilize texts, images and historic videos to present a brief analysis of the progressist neoliberal processes in their countries.
